Building on a tradition brought to the Fox stage with the 2024 production of AUGUST WILSON'S GEM OF THE OCEAN, GEE’S BEND tells the powerful story of a family of quilters from the isolated town of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Spanning the years 1939, 1965, and 2002, the play follows Sadie and her family as they confront the struggles of segregation, household conflict, and the Souther Freedom Movement. Throughout their journey, the women’s extraordinary quilts provide comfort, a creative outlet, and ultimately, a source of empowerment. Spiritual songs weave in and out of this hauntingly beautiful work.
